We’re spilling the ‘tea’ and it’s piping hot

To mark National Tea Day last Sunday, we decided to put SBX’s new photo and video capabilities to work to find out what the perfect cup of British tea tastes (and looks) like 👀 We collected responses from 113 individuals in the UK as they made tea in real-time, along with photos of their preferred tea brands and their perfect ‘cuppa’. ☕️

Speaking about this new feature our CEO, Vidisha, says “Photographs and videos convey information that is simply impossible to gather otherwise. For example, something in the background of a picture, or an individual’s behaviour while using a product, could provide invaluable insight that would otherwise be missed. What’s more, the AI technology that underpins SBX, translates photos and videos into business-ready, actionable insight under the guidance of its experts, so organisations benefit from both qualitative and quantitative data.”

So what makes the perfect cup of tea?

💡67% of Brits prefer cow’s milk in their tea, with only 9% opting for plant-based alternatives.

💡 9% of Brits use a higher amount of milk than water in their tea-making process.

💡 5% of Brits prefer to pour milk into their tea first, with one participant stating "I don't mind if I put in the milk or the hot water first."

💡Yorkshire Tea (23%) beats Tetley (20%) as Brits' favourite brand.

💡33% say the perfect steeping time for a tea bag is 1 minute, followed by 27% for less than a minute, 21% for 2 or more minutes, and 19% for exactly 2 minutes.

💡 The majority of Brits prefer unsweetened tea, with only 31% incorporating sugar into their tea-making routine.

💡Light brown tea is the perfect colour according to half of Brits, with consumers describing it as golden. One participant said this colour “strikes the perfect balance between not being too strong or too weak.”

💡39% of respondents deemed dark brown tea as their ideal cup, praising its "stronger, richer flavour" and the enhanced taste of the tea leaves.

“While organisations already have access to point-of-sale data and information about inventory and stock, they rarely have data to show how their products are being used or consumed in-the-moment. Streetbees’ new photo and video capture capability makes it possible for businesses to gather high quality, visual insight that conveys sentiment and behaviour that might not be apparent in text alone.” - UK Tech News, The Business Connect, Research Live, New Digital Age and London Daily News.
